The BBC recently reported that UK victims are losing a shocking £190,000 a day due to cyber-crime, with a third being down to social media and email hacking. An increasing amount of our time is spent online so we’re often exposed to the negative consequences of cyber-crime.

Strengthen your passwords – Change them regularly and never use the same one numerous times. There are a number of password management tools to help you along the way.
Social but safe – Keep your social media profiles private and try to refrain from posting personal information. Remember you leave a digital footprint online, so keep it minimal.
Check, double check and then check once more – Avoid emails that don’t appear legit – check the sender as these are becoming much more realistic, including correct branding and details. Never share details to email addresses which you aren’t 100% sure about.
Router refresh – Change your router password regularly and choose a complex password with a high difficulty score.
Update, always – Keep your software up-to-date so that your security is at its best at all times. Hackers are constantly finding new ways to threaten your safety online and regular software updates are there to fight the latest development. A few minutes to update your software no longer seems like a hassle, right?
Mobile covered – Today we use our smartphones for much more than calls and texts – browsing online, downloading apps or click-throughs can offer a much higher threat than in recent years, so take similar precautions as you would with your computer.
Be vigilant – Always be cautious about the sites you are visiting and clicking through to, always think twice and be sure it’s genuine.
Resilient firewalls – This will give you that extra safety blanket on top of your already secure network.
