Share the moment

When you’re at an event, what is the first thing you do?

Sit back, relax and enjoy or share the moments online?

It seems we’re in an era where it’s more important to post exciting events online to see what your friends’ reactions are and boost your social profile rather than just embrace the moment.

A few weeks on from one of the biggest sporting events of the year, Super Bowl, we can see how connected fans were whilst at the event.

According to Adweek, attendees blew a shocking 24.05 terabytes (TB) of data, which is a giant increase of 650% from 2014. Using apps including Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook were a large part of this data steal, with social media using a huge 2.8TB, with Instagram taking 1TB alone as the most used platform. Other apps included EPSN, NFL, iTunes, YouTube, Spotify and so many more.

Out of 75,000 fans, nearly 49,000 of those were on their phones, peaking to over 30,000 users at half time. That’s an impressive 70% engagement rate.

For any event, engagement rates are crucial to increase publicity, attract new customers and shout about the successes – maybe not so much for Fyre festival. But having a great connection available for attendees could really benefit you and provides an opportunity for free advertising.

So, when you’re at an event, is connecting to Wi-Fi the first thing you do? Or are you an ‘in the moment’ type of person? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Email us at hello@9group.co.uk
