The guests of 2018’s Comms National Awards raised an incredible £2,865 for St. Margaret’s Hospice, a charity which delivers responsive and compassionate care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness.
The chosen charity is close to the heart of 9’s brand ambassador and elite athlete, Maddie Hinch MBE. Maddie took to the stage at the prestigious event to deliver an emotive speech about her role in the final of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics against the Netherlands, which saw Team GB take home a Gold medal.
Guests at the event had an opportunity to donate to Maddie’s chosen charity by placing money in sealed envelopes. This, along with donations from BPL and 9 Group amounted to £2,865.
Maddie Hinch MBE commented: “I was touched that 9 enabled me to choose a charity for the funds raised at the event this year. St. Margaret’s Hospice has always been a charity close to my heart. My mum managed a small nursing home in Somerset for over ten years and so during that time, I got to witness first-hand how truly wonderful the hospice was in their care of the terminally ill and support of the families. I never imagined anywhere near this sum of money would have been raised. I’m overwhelmed and incredibly grateful!”
Joy Milliken, Director of Clinical Services at St. Margaret’s Hospice added “We can’t thank Maddie enough for choosing to donate this incredible amount of money to St. Margaret’s Hospice. We’d also like to thank the guests of the Comms National Awards, the team at 9 Group and the event organisers, BPL, for their generous donations. The money raised will make a massive difference to our patients and could pay for 28 Specialist Community Nurse visits for our local patients being cared for in their homes across Somerset.”
As St. Margaret’s is not part of the NHS, as a charity, we rely on generous donations like this from our local community to continue to provide our 24/7 services. We are so grateful for the support – this kind donation will help us continue to deliver high-quality care to Somerset patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness within our hospices or across the community.”
