Vodafone and Three: Improving Coverage Through Network Sharing

13.05.2026

Vodafone customers across the UK are beginning to benefit from improved mobile coverage, thanks to a major network upgrade that allows seamless access to both the Vodafone and Three networks.

This enhancement is made possible through eMOCN (Multi Operator Core Network) technology, which enables customers’ devices to automatically connect to the strongest available signal at no extra cost and with no action required.

It’s an important milestone in Vodafone and Three’s shared ambition to deliver the UK’s best mobile network experience for both businesses and consumers.

What does this mean for your customers?

Where eMOCN has been enabled, Vodafone customers can now benefit from:

- Seamless connectivity – devices automatically connect to the best available network

- Immediate coverage improvements – particularly in areas where signal was previously weaker

- Greater reliability in low-signal locations – helping to reduce dropped calls and interruptions

Importantly, customers won’t need to manually switch networks, change settings or upgrade their plan.

How it works

Once enabled in a local area:

- Phones automatically connect to the strongest available Vodafone or Three signal

- There is no additional cost to customers

- The process happens silently in the background

- Customers are notified by SMS when the feature is live in their area (based on their registered address)

Even when connected via Three’s network, the handset will still display “Vodafone” as the network name.

What your customers should know

While this rollout delivers meaningful improvements, it’s important to set the right expectations:

- Vodafone and Three coverage won’t be identical immediately, as not all sites are live yet

- Coverage maps may differ between brands during the rollout period

- Some network features and performance may still vary

- Further improvements will be delivered as more sites are enabled over time

Any connectivity issues should be handled using standard BAU support processes.

A £11 billion investment in better coverage

This capability forms part of Vodafone and Three’s wider £11 billion UK network investment. To date:

- eMOCN has been deployed across 8,000 sites nationwide

- 16,500 km² of “not spots” have been removed - roughly ten times the size of London

- Businesses and consumers alike are benefiting from improved coverage and performance

New research, launched alongside the campaign “We’ve got the nation covered”, also highlights the wider economic impact of improved connectivity. Better mobile coverage could deliver a £6.6bn annual boost to the UK economy after 10 years, helping enable the creation of 49,000 new businesses. Nearly two-thirds of would‑be founders surveyed said unreliable connectivity had prevented them from starting a business in their local area.

Supporting long‑term investment in the UK network

Alongside these network improvements, Vodafone has agreed to acquire the remaining 49% stake in VodafoneThree from CK Hutchison, valuing the business at £13.85bn (enterprise value), subject to regulatory approval. This move will see Vodafone take full ownership of the joint venture.

The agreement reflects the strong progress already delivered, including network upgrades completed ahead of schedule, alongside improvements in customer experience and retention. Vodafone has also reaffirmed its confidence in delivering £700m in annual cost and capital expenditure synergies by FY30, helping to support continued investment in the UK market.

Full ownership simplifies the business structure and reinforces Vodafone’s long‑term commitment to the UK as a core market. While no immediate changes to strategy or operations are expected, it provides greater flexibility to accelerate network improvements and deliver consistent, reliable connectivity across the country.

For partners, this underlines a clear, long‑term focus on network performance - giving you added confidence when positioning Vodafone solutions to your customers.
