At Onecom Group, giving back is at the heart of our mission. Over the past couple of years, we’ve worked closely with Hope and Homes for Children, a remarkable charity that shares our commitment to making the world a better place, especially for vulnerable children.
Hope and Homes for Children is dedicated to eradicating orphanages worldwide and placing them with in loving family-based care. They believe every child deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, nurturing home, and we are proud to support this incredible cause.
This October, Onecom Group's very own Charity Champion leader, Serena, has been given an extraordinary opportunity to witness the life-changing impact of Hope and Homes for Children firsthand. Serena will be traveling to Moldova, a small but resilient country nestled between Romania and Ukraine.
Moldova, like many parts of the world, faces significant challenges when it comes to the care of orphaned and vulnerable children. Through this trip, Serena will see how Hope and Homes is addressing these challenges, transforming lives, and building hope for a brighter future.
Serena’s Personal Update from the Field
Before embarking on this journey, Serena shared her thoughts and hopes for the trip:
"I'm excited to share that our team at Hope and Homes has been invited to visit Moldova. It is a small country between its big neighbours, Romania, and Ukraine. I’ll be visiting a baby institution and a foster family during my time here."
Serena goes on to express what she expects to find, emotionally preparing herself for the reality of the situation:
"I imagine the baby institution will be clean and warm, but with only basic amenities. I expect to see only a few babies, most of whom may have been orphaned due to the war or are from families in crisis. As for the foster families, I hope they will remind me of my own experience living with foster brothers and sisters.
I expect to meet children who are incredibly grateful for the love and care they receive but still need substantial emotional and mental support. Many of them will carry the weight of difficult pasts, and I hope the families have the resources, both financial and emotional, to help them grow into well-rounded adults."
One of the more difficult stops on her journey will be visiting a children’s home, an experience that Serena anticipates will be challenging:
"I think the children’s home will be one of the hardest places to visit. I expect there to be very basic facilities, and I’m hoping there will be opportunities for the children to access schooling and some comforts. But the reality is that life in an institution can be extremely hard for young minds and hearts."
While this experience will likely be emotionally heavy, Serena sees it as an essential opportunity to connect the work Onecom Group is doing with the real lives it impacts. It will give her and the team a deeper understanding of how Hope and Homes for Children is changing the narrative for vulnerable children in Moldova.
Our Fundraising Efforts: How You Can Help
This trip is also a powerful reminder of why we’ve partnered with Hope and Homes for Children. As Serena witnesses the challenges faced by children in Moldova, we’re reminded that our work doesn’t stop here. There’s still so much to do, and every little bit counts.
To support these children and their families, we’re aiming to raise funds across our offices to provide much-needed care packages. Each £109 raised will go towards purchasing four essential items that can make an immediate impact:
- A new bike for £59: Giving a child the freedom and joy of riding their own bike.
- A new baby pack for £25: Providing crucial items for newborns going home with their families.
- A week’s worth of food for £10: Supporting families in crisis by ensuring they have enough to eat.
- Registration fees for £15: Helping children be officially recognised and receive necessary services.
